Can I Visit Camp?

By

The short answer: Yes, but with some guidelines! Cheley is more than a summer adventure—it’s a community steeped in tradition, growth, and unforgettable experiences. Visiting camp is a special opportunity to step into this world, connect with the Cheley magic, and create memories with your camper or as part of the extended Cheley community. Here’s everything you need to know about visiting Cheley.

Visiting During the Summer Months

During the summer, we want to maintain the immersive camp experience for our campers and staff. Visits are limited to specific times and events to ensure every camper (and staff member) can enjoy their summer to the fullest.

For Camper Families: Final Saturday Only

Families of current campers can visit on Final Saturday—and only Final Saturday. This is the one day for you to step into your camper’s world, meet their counselors and friends, and witness the traditions that make Cheley so unique. Almost 90% of families visit on this day and depart with their camper the following morning. Families are not allowed to visit at other times during the summer.

We’ll share the specific schedule closer to summer, so keep an eye out for updates. If you’re traveling, we recommend booking accommodations early—Estes Park is a popular destination during the summer.

Save these dates for 2025:

  • First Term: Saturday, July 5th
  • Second Term: Saturday, August 2nd

What About Drop-Off? Families are welcome to drop off their campers at the start of the term, and around 50% of families (primarily local and first-time families) do so. However, if you can only choose between drop-off and pick-up, we recommend attending Final Saturday for pick-up. This gives you the chance to celebrate your camper’s growth and experience the magic of Cheley firsthand.

For Alumni and Former Staff

While Final Saturday is reserved for camper families, alumni and former staff are welcome to visit camp on Sundays to attend Chapel, which typically starts at 11AM. These visits offer a quieter way to connect with Cheley’s traditions—whether you’re reminiscing about your own camp days or exploring camp for the first time in a long time.

Please note: Other than on Final Saturday, visitors are typically not allowed to enter cabins, lodges, or buildings currently used by campers and staff. This helps preserve the Cheley Experience and ensures campers and staff can fully enjoy their time in camp spaces without disruption.

For Prospective Families

If you’re curious about Cheley or planning for a future summer, camp tours are available by appointment. To schedule a tour, call our office and speak with our Enrollment Manager, Peggy. She’ll help you find a time to experience the magic of Cheley firsthand.

Visiting Outside of Summer

Cheley operates from early May to early October, with campers, staff, and seasonal programs on-site. Access to camp is extremely limited during this time. Even during the off-season, we ask that you please do not arrive unannounced. Regardless of when you’d like to visit, always call ahead to schedule with us. This helps us ensure safety, security, and the best possible experience for everyone.

Whether you’re visiting for Final Saturday, a Sunday Chapel, or a pre-scheduled tour, we look forward to welcoming you and sharing the magic of Cheley with you!
