As the sun rises over the Rocky Mountains, the mornings at Lower Ski Hi buzzed with the excitement of a new day. From the first notes of reveille echoing through camp to the laughter and cheers that filled the air, this summer was nothing short of extraordinary. Our Lower Ski Hi campers traded in the comforts of home for adventures, friendships, and memories that will last a lifetime. Together, we embraced the challenges, celebrated the victories, and made the most of every moment in our little corner of Cheley.
Our horseback riding counselors, Hala Wilson, Lindsey Randall, Ethan Hanes, Thomas Light, John O’Neill, and Will Scarlett took the boys on many adventures on horseback. The following campers earned their Riding Patch: Huck Willhoite, Wyatt Bebee, Bjorn Berg, George Boynton, Everett Bump, Sam Clore, Beau McBride, Clark Moran, Micah Nordlander, Jack Rehberg, Oliver Remley, and Freddie Wold.
Our hiking counselors, Watson Lee and Riley Hanson, led day trips in Rocky Mountain National Park to amazing summits and beautiful lakes, with wildlife sightings along the way. The following campers earned their Chipmunk Patch: Arthur Baker, Axel Christiansen, Hank Harvison, Dominic Hill, Justin Hobbs, and August Lull.
Korbin Verdon and Michael Dietrich led outcamps where campers cooked outdoors, slept under the stars, and appreciated nature’s beauty. The following campers earned their Outcamping Patch: Briggs Bitter, Brooks Faris, Ezekiel Luong, Malachi Luong, Patrick Wessel, and Finley Zimmerman.
Sports counselors Lincoln Scott, Matthew Kinneary, and Robert Light led all sorts of fun games and activities. Programs included archery, soccer, capture the flag, climbing, croquet, lacrosse, badminton, disc golf, basketball, Knock Out, King of the Court, gaga ball, foosball, and stand-up paddle boarding.
Also within our sports program were our climbing activities, where campers could work and hone their climbing skills on the climbing wall and technical climbing on Christmas Tree Rock. Crafts counselor Nicolas Martinez inspired creativity through various art projects, and campfire counselors Patrick Barnat and Dylan Meyer brought everyone together at the end of each day with unit campfires.
The following campers earned their Circle of Stars patch: Beau Adams, Romain Allard, Merrick Brown, Jack Carlson, Harrison Cecere, Samuel Cleveland, Paarth Dalal, Brooks Faris, Sterling Glenn, Weston Harvison, Luca Hill, Jack Loiterstein, Ezekiel Luong, Rory Martin, Charlie Masters, Micah Nordlander, Quinn Nordlander, Connor Prystie, Grant Schwartzstein, Henry Shipley, Deacon Stapp, Patrick Wessel, Luke Wheeler, Huck Willhoite, and Freddie Wold. To earn this, you had to be well-rounded and open-minded. These adventurous guys had to meet specific requirements in riding, hiking, outcamping, riflery, crafts, climbing, and sports.
In addition to the values emphasized in each program area, Lower Ski Hi embraced a shared set of principles known as the Code of Living. Each term, campers collaboratively selected the qualities they believed were essential for living, playing, and working together in harmony. First Term chose: Kindness, Integrity, Honesty, Empathy, Responsible, and Grit. Second Term chose: Resilient, Loyal, Good Companion, Responsible, and Grateful. These qualities became the foundation of our community, and everyone strived to uphold them. At the end of each term, several campers were honored with the Silver Coup, the highest recognition in Lower Ski Hi, for their outstanding embodiment of the Code as recognized by their peers and staff. Now, as the final embers of summer fade and the quiet settles over Lower Ski Hi, we can still feel the echoes of those unforgettable days. The dust has settled in the Gaga pit, the trucks are tucked away, and the Clubhouse sits in peaceful stillness. But this is just a pause. Before we know it, summer will return, and with it, the joy, energy, and camaraderie of Lower Ski Hi. Until then, keep the spirit of Cheley alive in your heart, and know that we’ll be here, ready to welcome you back for another summer of adventures, friendships, and unforgettable memories.
